The Lipas settled in the Camden area of London, and Dua was raised to speak Albanian at home and English at school. It is a fact that we need to recognize the inadequacies of the past of our spaces and admit the prejudiced and unfair practices that formed the status quo and unfair privilege in the way we design. Indigenous and black peoples had no participation in the process of construction of cities and buildings and still had their ancestry and socio-cultural habits denied in the process of creating everything that involves an urban space. “Design justice” is an approach to design that is led by marginalized communities and that aims explicitly to challenge, rather than reproduce, structural inequalities. It has emerged from a growing community of designers in various fields who work closely with social movements and community-based organizations around the world.
